i find that astrology is a very interesting subject, & it's more than just the sun-sign & the horoscope you read in the newspaper. there is a lot to learn & the more you learn, the more fascinating it becomes. not only that, you learn more about yourself & the individuals around you. the 12 signs of the zodiac are broken down into 4 triplicities or elements: fire (aries, leo, sagittarius) = enthusiasm earth (taurus, virgo, capricorn) = practical ability, stability air (gemini, libra, aquarius) = intellectual ability water (cancer, scorpio, pisces) = intuition signs under the fire element get along the best with other fire signs, & get along well with air signs. signs under the earth element get along the best with other earth signs, & get along well with water signs. traditionally fire & air are not very compatible with earth & water. quadruplicities or qualities: cardinal (aries, libra, cancer, capricorn) = outgoing by nature fixed (taurus, scorpio, leo, aquarius) = rigid in opinions mutable (gemini, sagittarius, virgo, pisces) = flexible by nature each sign is traditionally 'positive' or 'negative'. the positive signs are masculine in a non-literal sense & tend to be extrovert. the negative, feminine signs tend to be introvert. the 3 most important elements in the fully calculated birth-chart are the rising sign, sun sign, & moon sign. the rising sign is unique depending on the time of day & geographical location to which you were born. it represents the 'real' you. the sun sign is one of 12 signs you are born under, depending on the month and day. it represents your self-expression and characteristics you present to the world. the moon sign traditionally represents characteristics inherited, but in modern astrology, it shows how you would instinctively respond to situations in life. along with the sun & moon signs, each planet also plays a role: the inner planets mercury - manner of thinking venus - love the outer planets mars - energy & sex drive jupiter - outlook on life saturn - sense of purpose & direction in life the modern planets uranus - strengthens particular traits neptune - generation influence pluto - violence, extreme action & reaction
