February 28

February 28, 2010: Let's be real, this day was a wash. I have traveled for 20 hours, while going through many time zones, but at the end of the day, I'm in fucking Bangkok!

February 27, 2010: It's amazing! The snow has stopped, I've seen a few peeks of blue sky, and the runways are snow-free. No mass hysteria at the airport; in fact, there were no delays. Very very smooth. Bangkok, here I come! Full flight, though (boo).

February 26, 2010: It's miserable here. There's a shit ton of snow, and the short walk to Dunkin Donuts in the slush was enough to keep me cooped up in Astoria for the rest of the day. All the airports in the area have canceled thousands of flights, and I wont lie, I'm really stressed out. But I did wii for the first time.

February 25, 2010: Due to the fact I was planning on taking the Chinatown bus after work on Friday, potentially in the middle of this blizzard, I had no choice but to take the train and get to the city before the storm hit. This was the option that would most likely get me there, plus it meant that I had an extra night to stay with my handsome host. I had some time to kill by myself while waiting for people to get off work, so I grabbed a seat and a beer at a place across from Penn Station. Weather isn't all that bad so far (although definitely not pleasant), let's see what happens tonight into tomorrow...

February 24, 2010: This is all I'm taking to Thailand. But, the real issue is not how much luggage I'm bring, it's how the fuck I'm getting there, due to the "powerful storm of historical proportions...paralyzing blizzard..." slated to hit the New York City area on Thursday. Seriously freaking out.

February 22, 2010: My mom got flowers because she'd had a rough work weekend. Tonight I saw a great staged reading of Driving Miss Daisy. I cried in public.

February 21, 2010: I had yet to see Thon at the Bryce Jordan Center, but I unfortunately picked the wrong time to go. Most of the seats were full, so they were only letting people in the seats behind the stage. You could watch big screens, but it wasn't the same. I also happened to go during family hour, where it was all sad stories of kids dying from cancer. Next year I'll have to make it out a little earlier during the weekend.

February 20, 2010: Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf at the Mishler Theatre. The Mishler Theatre is the most beautiful, ornate theatre I've been to. And I've been to a lot!

February 19, 2010: My Friday night was spent drinking beer and trying to decipher the hidden messages on the caps with a German, a Dutch, several Spanish speakers and other miscellaneous ethnicities.

February 18, 2010: I conveniently had a meeting at Cozy Thai Bistro. I absolutely had to go! Final day of the typhoid fever vaccine! Promptly followed by spring rolls and satay chicken.

February 16, 2010: My room is a shithole right now. It's partly due to preparation for the trip, which is just starting to hit me!

February 15, 2010: We got some more snow today, but it actually worked in my favor for once, keeping a special someone in town for an extra night. We went to see The Wolfman. It was ok.

February 14, 2010: Ebay and Olympic figure skating kept me from joining the State College Young Professionals Singles Awareness Day bar tour, but I did make it out to The Brewery for My Bloody Valentine karaoke. The "bloody" lab coat I have stashed in the trunk of my car has proven to be quite useful for these bar events I keep going to (none of which are on Halloween).

February 13, 2010: Finally went to the strip club! Unfortunately, most of my experience with strip clubs (American ones, anyway) are from TV and movies, and those are far more glamorous than the ones in central Pennsylvania. An interesting night, nonetheless.

February 12, 2010: I was kind of freaking out when I was reminded that I should have some vaccinations before I go to Thailand, a 3rd world country. Leaving in almost 2 weeks, that left me little time to get a Hepatitis A and Typhoid Fever vaccine. Luckily, I found a doctor that could fit me in today! The bill was outrageously expensive, but given that I was desperate, there wasn't much I could do about it. I really liked the doctor, though, and I got to stare at a poster with a diagram of the throat that looks like a vagina.

February 11, 2010: The Penis Monologues!!! I've seen it so many times that I know all the jokes. I wont lie, this year wasn't the best I've seen, which is a shame since it was the 10th anniversary and there was a bunch of drama associated with it this year, but mediocre penis monologues are still funny!

Classic Penis Monologues

February 9, 2010: I wonder when my neighbors will take down their lights. I guess they're not too Christmasy, but still. It's February! We leave our lights up all year (out of laziness), but we eventually stop turning them on.

I'm trying not to think about the upcoming snow storm. We're not D.C. or Philly (THANK GOD), but snow is snow, and there is too much snow already!

February 8, 2010: I have been more than a little jealous lately that my friends have been running into the Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. And then it was my turn! Even though bologna is disgusting, Oscar Mayer did an A++ job with their marketing. From the Wienermobile to the super catchy songs, I really do wish I were an Oscar Mayer wiener.

February 7, 2010: Believe it or not, getting hit in the head by a chunk of falling ice really fucking hurts. Luckily, it wasn't one of these monsters (I think I would be dead).

February 6, 2010: While my host was a bit disappointed in the zero inches of snow outside, I was very happy to be able to easily get out of the city. I was told there was 14" of snow waiting for me at home. Driving into the bad weather, alright! I had a lunch date with Jackee since she was kind of on the way home, although that ended up being more of a lunner (the meal between lunch and dinner). And what Saturday night is not complete without a trip to the mall??? In NEW JERSEY no less?!?!? Hey, you do what you gotta do to get to an H&M. I finally made it home at 11:30, and then crapped out on my plans for the evening.

February 5, 2010: The purpose of my New York trip was to see my favorite opera, Carmen, at the Metropolitan Opera (and it was definitely worth it). And just to make it a Met kind of day, I started the day with a visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The opera house was beautiful, and I was dressed to the nines and feeling pretty chic in the city. The night ended at a cozy little lounge back in Queens, with some amazing company and the anticipation of the blizzard to come...

February 4, 2010: On my way to New York City!!! Someday before I die I WILL be able to get on the goddamn Robert F. Kennedy Bridge (or as GPS likes to call it, "tree bro") on the first try. But not today.
